Continuous Improvements Engineer (Design, Quality & Manufacturing).

Would you like to run or have experience with improvement projects?

You will work to increase capability, productivity and product repeatability, while investigating and resolving complex product design or manufacturing problems, to improve product safety and product quality while striving to reduce waste and manufacturing costs, both proactively and reactively. You will be a qualified mechanical engineer with exposure to working within a precision engineering environment, with design, production and quality teams.

Job Purpose:

To be the interface between product and design engineering, production and quality, delivering Continuous Improvement. To investigate and resolve technical problems, design for manufacture and cost reduction both pro-actively and reactively. Assisting or leading with Corrective Actions, while offering new methods or techniques for Continuous Improvements.

You will be located within the design engineering environment, as part of the Continuous Improvement team, whilst working closely with all areas of the business.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

We are looking for an ambitious Continuous Improvements Design/Manufacturing engineer who is an excellent problem solver, can investigate and find root causes with product designs, processes, rejects and technical quality issues, while offering and implementing workable solutions.

We are looking for an engineer who has a grasp of the principles of Lean and can apply them.

To identify areas for improvement, priorities and take ownership of making relevant improvement changes. Capable to make and implement positive sustainable change, resulting from investigations, with product designs, specifications and production processes, to improve capability, quality and cost.

Participates and takes ownership of resolving technical Corrective Action Requests, investigations and Continuous Improvements, where applicable.

Capable of designing experiments and tests, to verify & validate specification requirements, products and processes, developing key measures and analysing data for decision support.

To improve safety and product quality, reduce wastes and manufacturing costs.

To support New Product Introduction, Quality and continuous improvement functions.

Person Requirement & expected skills:

Good Technical Education to HND or Degree level, ideally in a mechanical, material or scientific related discipline, complemented by a good practical skill base with knowledge of product design, materials and manufacturing processes including machining, injection moulding, assembly and quality procedures.

To identify and implement improvements, be an excellent technical problem solver. To be able to test and design experiments while collating and interpreting production data for process and/or product design improvements.

Good communication skills (inter-departmental communication) while participating and/or leading improvement initiatives. To have excellent literary skills.

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques and process capabilities.

Some experience working with CAD.

Pro-active approach and to take ownership.

Offer and implement effective technical solutions.

Improve design for manufacturability, capability and cost reduction.

Assist or lead root cause analysis.

Support new product development and introduction.

Able to read and interpret technical drawings.

Able to produce and present technical documentation.
